Background Information:
1/9/24 Supervisor Hansen requested to establish a Public Safety Assessment Committee to discuss the possibility of pursuing a public safety tax. 1/30/24 The Board discussed the committee and a motion was made to establish this committee and include all Public Safety Department Heads, members of the public at large, at least two Board members, and representatives from each union that will be impacted by this action. It was stated this working group will meet in compliance with Brown Act requirements for posting of meetings and public accessibility. Clerk of the Board Jennifer Vise stated the last day for the Board to approve a measure to go on the November ballot would be 88 days before the election.
Supervisor Hansen has been working in the background to identify meeting locations and a public safety staff member for keeping agendas, minutes, notifications and the like. Staff recommends Letters of Interest be submitted to the Board by constituents that would like to serve as a member of the public at large.
