a) AGREEMENT - Request approval and authorization for the Chairman and Sheriff to sign the Agreement with Dr. Stephen Datu for the provision of providing certain medical services to assist the Tehama County Sheriff/Coroner in performing his/her statutory duties for the rates as listed with maximum compensation not to exceed $100,000 per year, effective 4/1/24 and shall terminate 6/30/27
body

Financial Impact:
The funding source for this agreement in the remaining time in FY 23-24 has been supplemented by a funds transfer approved by the Board on 1/23/24. The funding source for the remaining three years will be budgeted accordingly from the Coroner's Budget 2072- 53230 Professional Services. The Sheriff's Office will continue to apply for grant monies to also help secure funding for Coroner Services.

Background Information:
In an effort to bring on multiple physicians to be available for non-forensic cases, Dr. Datu is established with the County and will continue to be used as one of the primary non-forensic physicians.

The County has been using Dr. Datu's non-forensic services to sign off on cause or probable cause of death prior to the release of the body since 2021, and this will continue to allow the Sheriff's Office to release the bodies in a timely manner without inconveniencing the surviving family members.

It should be noted that the department also has one forensic pathologist on contract that is used for criminal, in-custody, SIDS and most child deaths. Forensic pathologists are more expensive and greater in demand, so the Sheriff's Office is seeking other physicians to supplement the workload.

The Sheriff's Office has also lined the agreement up with their fiscal year-ending in June 30th. This will hopefully, reduce any confusion agreed upon with yearly not to exceed amounts. The first year will continue for approximately 15 months, 04/01/2024 going to 06/30/...
