Financial Impact:
The funding for the requested action is from monetary donations received and used specifically for animals beyond the state-mandated holding period for treatable medical conditions. Without donations, these costs would not otherwise be included in the Department's budget.
The Division has made adjustments to the Animal Medical Services account (2078-532807) for Fiscal Year 2024/25 to better reflect anticipated expenses.
Background Information:
The County does not have the resources to provide medical treatment for animals beyond the holding period; as such, a medical donation account was established as part of the overall donation account. Donations made to the medical account are used specifically for animals that have a treatable medical condition that may prevent them from being adoptable. Without this funding, animals needing medical treatment may need to be euthanized.
This Fiscal Year 2023/24 the amount of Medical Donation expenses exceeded what was anticipated by $31,644.42.
