Financial Impact:
There would be a financial impact on the general fund. These funds would be utilized in the Jail for an unanticipated expense that was not budgeted for in the County Facility.
Background Information:
The Jail was recently notified by the Board of State and Community Corrections (BSCC) that they are out of compliance because of ligatures in their cellside housing area. The 53-bed housing unit cannot have any open spaces in the bunks, desk, and handles that would allow the incarcerated individuals to tie or bind something tightly from.
The improvement to the building would allow the Tehama County Jail to gain compliance with the BSCC. Once compliance is approved this would allow for the housing unit to become available for those incarcerated individuals again. There is already an agreement in place 242PA24 with a vendor to complete the assigned work. We are waiting on a funding source to continue fixing the unanticipated expense.
