Financial Impact:
The current salary for this position is $25.48 - $34.18 hourly. The annual cost of this allocation with salary benefits and roll-up costs ranges from approximately $96,816 - $101,917. The cost for this position is included in the recommended budget for FY 2024-25.
Background Information:
The Sheriff’s Office currently has one (1.00 FTE) Accountant I/II vacant allocation needed to be filled by a qualified candidate. The Sheriff’s Office has recently interviewed one (1) candidate who is in the background phase of the hiring process and the outcome of the background looks promising.
One of the functions of this position is to develop grant proposals. The Sheriff’s Office is aware that a dedicated grant-writer can significantly increase the likelihood of obtaining grants, which can bring in substantial financial resources that far exceed the salary of the vacant position. This funding can support critical projects, programs, and services, enhancing the overall impact of the Sheriff’s Office and reducing the negative impact to the general fund.
Due to this vacant position, multiple employees have been pulled away from their primary duties to aid in the maintenance of the grants we currently hold. An Accountant I/II, dedicated to overseeing compliance and mandated reporting requirements, frees up our other staff to focus on their primary responsibilities.
Failing to approve this action would leave the Sheriff’s Office missing out on multiple grant opportunities, thus generating less revenue for the County.
