Financial Impact:

These funds are budgeted in the FY 2024/25 budget with no impact on the General Fund.

Background Information:

Stryker is a global leader in medical technologies, and they provide quality, innovative products. The funds will be used to outfit the new coroner truck with a gurney lift and powered gurney fastener. Both items will be used to assist the Coroners in daily duties and responsibilities, while significantly increasing staff safety.

The purchase of the gurney lift, and powered gurney will greatly increase the staff safety standards and decrease the chance of potential work compensation claims while Coroner’s are moving decedents. The gurney includes features such as an equipment hook to prevent movement during transport, x-restraints to keep the decedent in place, adjustable height and a transport handle so the Coroner can adjust the height as needed and is not having to lift more than necessary. The powered gurney fastener eliminates the need to steer the gurney in and out of the Coroner Truck, supports the gurney until the wheels are firmly on the ground, and helps prevent spinal load trauma injuries.

The Coroner’s current vehicles are outfitted with these same Stryker products and have proven successful at completing tasks efficiently and safely.
