Background Information:

On July 21, 2026, A Study Session was held at the meeting of the Board of Supervisors. Staff proposed a zoning change in Data Centers from Permitted Use to Uses requiring a conditional use permit.  Data Centers are currently permitted in the M-1 Light and Industrial and the M-2 General Industrial Districts as permitted use.  The Board of Supervisors asked questions and discussed Data Centers.  Staff was given direction to move Data Centers from Permitted Use to Uses requiring a conditional use permit.  Staff was also given additional direction to bring back the study session item with a more robust data on water usage, electricity consumption, waste, and noise pollution levels and a possible draft ordinance specifically for Data Centers.
