Background Information:

As the Board is aware, the Office of Administrative Law approved the SB 1383 final regulations on November 3, 2020. AB 2902 extended the deadline for when jurisdictions with a Rural Exemption must comply with SB 1383 regulations to January 1, 2037. Below is a summary of work completed since the April 6 Full Board meeting.

 

•                     The Agency met with PATH to discuss the Community Composting Program at the Navigation Center on July 13, July 23, and August 10. Assembly of storage shed was completed on August 19. Additional composting tools were purchased for staff to turn compost material. Project details and implementation are ongoing,

•                     The Agency attended the Tehama Together Food Share meeting on July 13 and August 10. The Agency shared information with the partnering organization about additional resources and services available through current grant. It was emphasized that the grant funding will be ending soon.

•                     The Agency continues to utilize SB 1383 grant funding for outreach and education through local magazine media platforms. An article was developed for the Fall print issue of North State Parent Magazine focusing on backyard composting. The Agency is using the article to promote backyard composting and begin promoting the community compost project at PATH’s Navigation Center.

•                     Agency staff conducted inspections of Tier 1 Commercial Edible Food Generators on July 9, July 13, July 14, July 15, and July 22.

•                     Agency staff conducted inspections of Tier 2 Commercial Edible Food Generators on September 14, September 15, September 16, and September 21.

•                     Agency staff conducted inspections of Food Recovery Organizations on July 28, July 30, July 31, August 13, and August 17.

•                     The Agency purchased two freezers for The Lords Table Food Recovery Organization for edible food recovery purposes. OWR4 grant funding was utilized for the purchase of the equipment.

•                     The Agency purchased storage shelving and a freezer for The Harvest Christian Center Food Recovery Organization for edible food recovery purposes. OWR4 grant funding was utilized for the purchase of the equipment

•                     The Agency purchased a dehydrator vacuum pump replacement for The Tehama County Gleaners Food Recovery Organization for edible food recovery purposes. OWR4 grant funding was utilized for the purchase of the equipment

•                     The Agency purchased a revolving rack for the distribution of freeze-dried food, a warming light, mylar bags, and oxygen absorbers for The Corning Senior Center Food Recovery Organization for edible food recovery purposes. The organization also requested reimbursement for two shelving racks purchased during the term of the grant. OWR4 grant funding was utilized for the purchase and reimbursement of the equipment.

•                     Agency staff provided composting education and demonstrations at the Manton Apple Festival on October 3.

•                     The Agency continues to work on the compost education trailer. General maintenance on the trailer was completed such as sand blasting and painting of the trailer.
