Background Information:
The Tehama County Sheriff’s Office is respectfully requesting an exemption to the hiring freeze for one Deputy Sheriff position, which is crucial to the maintenance of Public Safety. The Sheriff’s Office has built momentum in the hiring of Deputy Sheriffs over the past few months, and we do not want to lose traction with this unprecedented rate of recruitment success. The Sheriff's Office currently has a lateral applicant in the background phase of the hiring process and the outcome of the background looks promising. By hiring a lateral applicant, who already possesses the training and experience necessary to operate at a competent level, the Sheriff’s Office can initiate an expedited training program, thereby circumventing 4 to 6 months of costly training. This will ultimately save the county thousands of dollars and allows us to offer an immediate public safety asset to the citizens.
In consideration of the current state of law enforcement recruitment efforts, the Sheriff's Office has learned from experience, that hesitation, or prolonged hiring processes are discouraging to applicants. This may cause an applicant to withdraw or accept a more lucrative / expedited offer from another agency.
