Financial Impact:

Departments who wish to participate in the A$ET program are responsible for ensuring there is sufficient funding available.

Background Information:

Tehama County has been presented with an opportunity to participate in the Shasta College Accounting Clerk Apprenticeship Program known as A$ET.  A$ET was designed in response to the need for accounting clerks in local industries.  A$ET is a unique and valuable opportunity which creates a pipeline of accounting clerk apprentices who are in the process of receiving education through Shasta College and need hands on training to become skilled bookkeepers and accountants.

The A$ET program is approximately eighteen months (18 months) in duration and requires a minimum of three thousand (3000) hours of on-the-job training.  Related and supplemental instruction shall consist of a minimum of six hundred, ninety-three (693) hours provided to the apprentice by Shasta College.  The program and all participating apprentices are overseen by the Unilateral Training Committee in conjunction with Tehama County.  Tehama County will be considered the Employer of Record.

Upon completion of the A$ET program, apprentices will receive a Shasta College Accounting Clerk Certificate and an industry recognized Certificate of Completion from the State of California.

There is a need for accounting clerks countywide.  The goal of this program is to provide hands on training to accounting clerk apprentices who could eventually become permanent Tehama County employees.  Failure to approve participation in this program may result in Tehama County losing an opportunity to hire highly skilled and trained accounting staff.
