Financial Impact:
There is no financial impact on the FY 2026/27 General Fund. The grant agreement (Misc. Agree. 2026-260) was previously approved by the Board of Supervisors on August 25, 2026. Approval of this form does not involve any additional funding.
Background Information:
In April 2026, the Tehama County Sheriff’s Office submitted an application to the U.S. Department of Justice, Bureau of Justice Assistance (BJA), for funding through the FY 2025 Edward Byrne Memorial Justice Assistance Grant (JAG) Program – Local Formula Grant. The Sheriff’s Office subsequently received conditional approval for the grant award.
On August 25, 2026, the Board of Supervisors approved the Sheriff’s request to electronically accept the grant award on behalf of the County. Following the Sheriff’s electronic acceptance of the award, the BJA issued the Certifications of Assurances by the Chief Executive of the Applicant Government form, which requires the signature of the Chairman of the Board of Supervisors.
The FY 2025 Edward Byrne Memorial Justice Assistance Grant will provide funding to enhance law enforcement effectiveness, officer safety, and investigative capabilities throughout Tehama County. Grant funds will be used to purchase essential law enforcement equipment, including one rifle for the Special Weapons and Tactics (SWAT) Team, three firearms for law enforcement personnel, patrol K-9 supplies, and a television to support the Major Crimes Unit’s investigative and operational functions.
