a) STUDY SESSION - Discuss potential funding strategies for the Countywide Radio System Upgrade, including options to compartmentalize project costs among Departments that will utilize the upgraded system
body
Financial Impact:
The Sheriff's Office has continued to pursue funding opportunities for the radio upgrade and was awarded $550,000 in Fiscal Year 2026 Community Project Funding (CPF). Other previous funding sources include AB443 and General Fund.
Background Information:
The County-Wide Emergency Radio Communications Project is a multi-phased effort to modernize and improve the County's public safety radio communications infrastructure. The project is intended to address aging communications systems, improve interoperability among public safety agencies, and enhance the reliability of emergency communications throughout the county.
At the June 30, 2026, Board of Supervisors meeting, Supervisor Hansen stated during Future Agenda Items that he would like the Board to discuss potential funding approaches for the Countywide Radio System Upgrade. As the upgraded system will benefit multiple County Departments, the Board will discuss options for compartmentalizing project costs among the Departments that will utilize the system to establish an equitable cost-sharing approach, ensuring the financial responsibility for the project is shared rather than borne solely by the Sheriff's Office.
