Financial Impact:

Tehama County Department of Education (TCDE) will reimburse the Tehama County District Attorney’s Office (TCDA) for the cost of salary and benefits for an Extra Help Investigator.

Background Information:

The Tobacco Use Prevention Education (TUPE) program is a Tehama County Department of Education program geared towards educating Tehama County’s youth about the harmful effects of tobacco use. The Tehama County District Attorney’s Office proudly joined this program in a collaborative effort in 2023 and will continue to expand those educational programs to not only the youth of Tehama County, but to the County as a whole. With the expansion of this team, the TUPE program has also added a compliance check component for those Tehama County merchants who have a license to sell tobacco products. The TUPE program’s main goal is training, education, and compliance; with enforcement action being the last resort.

The original grant amount was $265,500 but was later increased to $295,000, necessitating this action by TCDA and the Board.
