Background Information:
The Western Open Fiddle Championships were founded in 1982 in Redding as the “performance arm” of District 6 of the California State Old Time Fiddle Association (CSOTFA). On October 24-26, 2024, we will celebrate our 41st annual contest at Tehama District Fairgrounds, having moved to Red Bluff, CA 26 years ago.
The existence of the California State Old Time Fiddle Association is to celebrate and perpetuate the art and cultural heritage of old-time fiddle music. From musician to musician the unique quality of old-time fiddle music that our musicians largely play by ear-seldom learning new music from reading sheet music.
The Western Open believes so strongly about the importance of music for our children, that we waive all admission fees, making all events at the Western Open accessible to the entire community.
