Requested Action(s)

recommendation

a) AGREEMENT - Request approval and authorization for the Social Services Director, or her Designee to sign the agreement with Computers for Classrooms for the purpose of picking up and processing surplus technology to reissue to consumers, donate to community programs, and recycle unused materials effective 7/1/26 and shall terminate 6/30/29

b) Request to adopt the finding that it is in the best interest of the public to donate miscellaneous surplus technology items with little to no value, rather than sell or recycle the items ourselves

body

Financial Impact:

There is no financial impact.  Computers for Classrooms completes the service for free.  Recycling the items ourselves would cost the Department additional labor hours.

Background Information:

The Department has used Computers for Classrooms to recycle surplus technology for many years.  This Agreement was previously processed as a purchase agreement, however, we are now seeking Board approval due to some of the items being donated to community programs through Computer for Classrooms.  Typical miscellaneous surplus items include: old monitors, keyboards, mice, and computers.  The Department IT staff sanitize and destroy any data prior to giving items to Computers for Classrooms.  Computers for Classrooms is a local non-profit that refurbishes surplus technology and makes it available to the qualifying community at a low cost.
