Financial Impact:
There is no financial impact on the FY 2024/25 General Fund. The funds are being transferred from the State COVID Relief fund.
Background Information:
The State COVID Relief funds will be used to pay for necessary repairs to the body scanner at the jail that is used to scan the inmates during the intake process. The body scanner is currently unusable until the repairs are completed. The funds will also be used to purchase a five (5) year warranty that will cover all future repairs, parts, labor and shipping costs if needed during the warranty agreement period, one preventative maintenance visit, one radiation safety survey and software system review.
The body scanner detects concealed threats during the inmate intake process. The scanner is able to detect both metallic and nonmetallic threats including weapons, drugs, cell phones and other contraband within 3.8 seconds. Screens from below the feet to above the head reveal items under clothing and within the body. The no contact method makes the in-take process more efficient, smoother for the inmate and safer for the correctional officer.
The repairs must be completed on the body scanner before the five (5) year warranty will be valid due to the current warranty lapsing. The repairs on the body scanner will not exceed $8,100 and the five (5) year warranty will be $9,999 yearly with a not exceed $49,995 and terminate on 3/31/2030.
