Background Information:
The Tehama County Agriculture Department is requesting to revise the classification specification for the Assistant Agricultural Commissioner/Sealer of Weights & Measures.
The current classification specification for this position requires possession of a valid California licensure of eligibility as a County Agricultural Commissioner and as a County Sealer of Weights and Measures (two separate licenses). These licenses significantly limit the number of qualified individuals. Therefore, the Department is requesting to amend the classification specification by lowering the requirements to possession of a valid California licensure of eligibility as a Deputy County Agricultural Commissioner AND a Deputy County Sealer of Weights and Measures. In addition, incumbents will be required to obtain the required license as a County Agricultural Commissioner within thirty-six (36) months and a license as a County Sealer of Weights and Measures within forty-eight (48) months of hire or separate from County service.
The California Department of Food and Agriculture has granted prior approval to ensure all state requirements are met with the proposed changes. The Department is confident that, if approved, this change will expand the field of potential candidates who would meet the new requirements and assist the Department with active recruitment efforts.
