Financial Impact:
There is no financial impact on the FY 26/27 general fund. The grant award amount is not changing.
Background Information:
The State of California Board of State and Community Corrections (BSCC) Edward Byrne Memorial Justice Assistance Grant (JAG) Equipment and Training Program is a non-competitive, population-based grant that provides funding to local law enforcement agencies for eligible equipment purchases and training. Tehama County was allocated $50,551 in JAG funding to support law enforcement drug enforcement efforts. A portion of the funding was used to purchase a replacement portable drug identification tester, ensuring the Sheriff's Office maintains its operational capability for field drug identification.
The original grant term was 12 months; however, the BSCC has offered a one-year extension to allow recipients additional time to fully expend their grant awards. Cost savings realized during the procurement of the portable drug identification tester resulted in a remaining grant balance. Acceptance of the grant extension will provide the Sheriff's Office with sufficient time to evaluate operational needs and procure additional eligible equipment or training consistent with the grant requirements. This extension will ensure the remaining grant funds are fully expended in a fiscally responsible manner while maximizing the benefit of the award to the County.
