Financial Impact:
There is no financial impact on the general fund. The monies will be allocated from the Homeland Security Grant.
Background Information:
Shasta County Sheriff’s Office has a “Bomb Unit” that consists of one Commander and two Explosive Ordnance Disposal (“EOD”) Technicians that respond to EOD incidents and enforce the laws dealing with explosive devices. The Shasta County Sheriff Office’s “Bomb Unit” responds to the incidents that involve explosive devices in Tehama County on a mutual aid basis since the Tehama County Sheriff’s Office does not have a “Bomb Unit” and do not have the funding to purchase their own bomb removal robot.
The contribution of $10,000.00 from Tehama County towards the purchase of the CALIBER FLEX ROBOT secures a priority response from the Shasta County “Bomb Unit” when an event happens.
The MOU’s insurance requirements deviate from Tehama County’s standard agreement requirements by requesting no less than $2 million combined single limit body injury and property damage. Tehama County’s standard agreement requires no less than $1 million single limit body injury and property damage. These modifications require review and approval by the Board of Supervisors.
