AG EXTENSION - Director Josh Davy

end

Requested Action(s)

recommendation

a) RESOLUTION - Request the adoption of a resolution that the Tehama County Board of Supervisors opposes the presence and introduction of wolves in Tehama County

body

Financial Impact:

There is no financial impact.

Background Information:

Tehama County is facing imminent threats to both livestock and wildlife from the migration and introduction of wolves across its borders.  Historic deer populations have declined in dramatic fashion over previous decades leaving little native prey for wolves.  The foreseeable result is the heavy predation of livestock and decimation of the remaining deer herd.  Livestock production is one of the top three agricultural commodities in Tehama County and a critical component of its cultural heritage.

Adoption of this resolution states Tehama County opposes the willful taking of livestock producer’s private property and further decline of the county’s deer population.  This resolution is supported by the Tehama County Cattlemen’s Association, the Tehama County Agricultural Commissioner, the Tehama County District Attorney, and the Tehama County Cooperative Extension Livestock Advisor.
