Financial Impact:

As yet total costs to the County are undetermined. It is anticipated that state and federal assistance will be available once all the damages has been assessed.

Background Information:

Tehama County Code Section 2.18.40 allows the Sheriff, as Director of the Office of Emergency Services in Tehama County, to proclaim the existence or threat of local emergency when Tehama County is affected or likely to be affected by public calamity. Code Section 2.18.050 requires the Board of Supervisors ratify the proclamation within seven days thereafter or the proclamation shall have no further force or effect.

The “State of Emergency” is declared when, in the opinion of the director, the locally available resources are inadequate to cope with the emergency. This action allows state of federal assistance to become available to local government, individuals and businesses. In the event that additional damage does occur, government relief programs would not be available to those suffering losses without the declaration of local emergency.
