body

Financial Impact:

These are receivable funds in the amount of $267,867 per fiscal year.

Background Information:

Future of Public Health (FoPH) funds originally authorized in the 2022 Budget Act provided $200,400,000 annually to Local Health Jurisdictions (LHJs) statewide to support local health workforce and infrastructure.

The 2024 Budget Act authorized a significant reduction to FoPH funding, beginning in FY 24/25 and ongoing. The California Department of Public Health developed a methodology to reduce local allocations based on each LHJs proportion of the total unspent funds reported in their FY 23/24 expenditures reports. The funds are considered ongoing funds and part of the ongoing baseline state budget, which must be approved in the annual state budget process. Local assistance amount is pending annual budget approval for each upcoming state fiscal year.

If approval is not granted, Tehama County will lose the opportunity to utilize these local assistance funds in Public Health.
