Requested Action(s)

recommendation

a)                     AGREEMENT - Request approval and authorization for the Sheriff and the Chairman to sign Amendment No.3 to the Agreement with Bennet Omalu Pathology (Misc. Agree. 2025-049, as amended by Misc. Agree. 2025-089, and Misc. Agree. 2025-222), thereby increasing the maximum annual compensation payable not to exceed $175,000 per year (Subject to receipt of required insurance documentation)

body

Financial Impact:

The funding source for the agreement has been budgeted for FY 25/26 in the Coroner’s Budget, 2072-53230.

Background Information:

The County has been using Bennet Omalu Pathology Services since 2018 and prior to that when he was with Forensic Pathology Group to perform external examinations of decedents, external/internal investigations of decedents if deemed necessary by the Coroner, and to review medical or dental records of decedents.

Due to a recent tragic incident, service demands increased beyond normal operational levels, resulting in the annual not-to-exceed contract limit being exceeded. To ensure payment of the outstanding invoice and to accommodate any additional services that may be required for the remainder of the agreement term, the Sheriff’s Office is requesting an increase to the annual maximum compensation, not to exceed $175,000.
