Financial Impact:

Funding will be a receivable up to $15,000 to the Maternal, Children, and Adolescent Health (MCAH) program.

Background Information:

This funding will help support the collaboration between TCHSA and First 5 Tehama to offer perinatal and postpartum support groups, conduct outreach, and provide referrals where necessary for individual therapy. The purpose of the perinatal mental health support groups is to provide a safe and therapeutic space to share how pregnant women and new parents are adjusting to their roles of parenting. Perinatal mood disorders, such as anxiety and depression, affect approximately 20% of mothers during and after pregnancy, as well as 10% of fathers/partners. Addressing mental health concerns related to pregnancy and postpartum can help alleviate some stressors for parents and give them healthier coping skills to increasing bonding and positive parent-child interaction. By supporting perinatal mental health, we are working to decrease adverse childhood experiences and increase positive parenting skills.
