Background Information:

Every other year, in January, the Tehama County Continuum of Care conducts a count and voluntary survey of people experiencing homelessness.  The 2025 Tehama County Point-in-Time (PIT) count is an aggregate count of sheltered and unsheltered people experiencing homelessness in Tehama County within a single 24-hour period in January 2025.

The count provides our community with information on the number and circumstances of the population of people experiencing homelessness in Tehama County to inform decisions about how to best to address homelessness locally. Collection of this data also contributes to the eligibility of local agencies to apply for and receive state and federal funds to support these local efforts. Additionally, the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) combines data from Point-in-Time Counts conducted in communities across the nation to create an overall report that is presented to the U.S. Congress to inform policy decisions and budget appropriations at the federal level. The State of California uses California-wide Point-in-Time Count data in much the same way. This year's local count was organized by the Tehama County Continuum of Care, a collaboration of stakeholders whose goal is to solve homelessness in Tehama County, and was carried out with the help of community volunteers, staff from local non-profits and county departments, and members of the faith community. Data analysis and reporting was conducted by Tehama County Continuum of Care.
