No financial impact.

Background Information:

August is Child Support Awareness Month, an annual time to raise awareness about a critical income support program that helps millions of children and families. There are over 2700 child support cases at Tehama County Department of Child Support Services alone and parents have paid over $ 4,767,764 dollars as of June, 2025 toward the support of their children during the current 2024-25 federal fiscal year. This kind of support helps families thrive and sets kids up to succeed.

Child support has changed more in the last five years than in the past five decades. The goal is to help make coparenting affordable and hassle free with new laws and a new approach. The calculations to determine child support amounts have been revised for the first time in 60 years, creating more reasonable orders that parents can pay. Some more recent changes to the program are parents released from incarceration have more time to establish themselves before resuming payments, more money than ever before is being passed through to parents formerly on cash aid, and outdated enforcement actions have been updated or revoked.

The Tehama County Department of Child Support Services requests the Board of Supervisors consider proclaiming August 2025 as Child Support Awareness Month.
