Financial Impact:

There is no financial impact on the General Fund. The funds are being transferred from the COVID funds to the Jail for networking equipment and labor costs for the jail expansion.

Background Information:

During a walkthrough of the new jail expansion facility with the County’s Information Systems Manager, it was determined that the network configuration funds originally budgeted only minimally met the requirements of the current equipment.

After confirmation of the infrastructure layout for the expansion facility, it was determined that a higher-capacity network is required to link the two facilities. The requested funds will provide full network connectivity, switching, and wireless coverage between the main jail and the expansion facility, including redundant power and network paths to ensure system reliability and maximum uptime.

In addition, the Information Systems Manager confirmed with the Sheriff’s Information Technology vendor that upgrades to the existing jail-side network switching are required, along with new network equipment to support the expansion facility.
