body

Financial Impact:

There is no financial impact associated with the approval of this policy.

Background Information:

The County currently maintains three separate policies addressing vehicle use, transportation, and travel. These policies have been reviewed and consolidated into one comprehensive document to provide greater clarity, consistency, and uniform application across all County departments.

The proposed policy establishes standardized expectations and procedures for employees operating vehicles while conducting County business, including driver eligibility, authorized vehicle use, transportation of passengers, driver training, and accident reporting requirements.

Consolidating these policies eliminates overlapping provisions, clarifies departmental responsibilities, and promotes safe driving practices while reducing potential liability to the County.

The proposed policy is intended to provide clear and consistent guidance to all County departments while supporting operational needs and effective risk management.

The proposed policy was reviewed through the Personnel Procedures & Guidelines Ad Hoc Committee as part of the County's ongoing efforts to review, update, and maintain consistent personnel policies and procedures. The policy is now being presented to the Board of Supervisors for consideration and approval.

This policy aligns with negotiated agreements and ensures consistency across all bargaining units.  The Personnel Office has met the requirements to meet and confer with the bargaining unit representatives regarding this revised policy and agreements have been reached.
