Requested Action(s)

recommendation

a) AGREEMENT - Request approval and authorization for the Director of Animal Services to sign the Agreement with Hill's Pet Nutrition Sales, Inc (Hill's), for the purpose of providing and/or making available select Hill's brand pet food at a discounted price, effective upon date of signing for one year with two one-year renewable extensions

body

Financial Impact:

The requested action will have no impact on the department's current budget.  Not renewing this agreement would increase the Division’s cost to feed animals in care.

Background Information:

The Division of Animal Services has participated in the Hill’s Food, Shelter, Love program since August 2021. This program offers discounts on all food used in shelter to feed shelter animals, with 74% off list price for dry cat food, 56% off list price for dry dog food, and 35% off list price for wet food. Additional discounts are available on prescription pet food when needed. Hill’s also provides benefits to adopters in the form of adopter kits, which includes a sample bag of food and coupons for additional purchases of Hill’s Pet Food. If the agreement is not renewed, the Division would have to explore other options to provide food for shelter animals at a significantly higher price.
