Background Information:
Pierce’s Disease is a deadly disease of grapevines that is caused by bacterium. The fatal disease is spread to grapevines by the glassy-winged sharpshooter (GWSS), causing the entire vine to die within 1-5 years after exposure. Pierse’s Disease is known to be prevalent within the USA from Florida to California. In addition to Pierce’s Disease, GWSS can also spread Scorch Disease of almond, oleander, mulberry, olive and liquid amber. The potential spread of this disease by GWSS should be of concern to landscape professionals and agricultural producers throughout California. The Department has historically entered in to this Agreement for the past several years. If the Agreement in not approved, the Department would not receive compensation for any activity performed related to the Pierce’s Disease Control Program.
