Financial Impact:
The funds for this agreement are budgeted into the FY 25/26 budget. There will be no reimbursement from NPS, County is responsible for all personnel and associated costs incurred during mutual law enforcement and emergency responses services.
Background Information:
For more than twenty years, the Tehama County Sheriff's Office (TCSO) has maintained a cooperative agreement with the National Park Service to provide mutual law enforcement assistance and emergency response services within the Tehama County jurisdictional boundaries of Lassen Volcanic National Park.
This longstanding partnership ensures coordinated and timely law enforcement response to protect human life and property, and to address threats to public health and safety within park areas located in Tehama County. Under this arrangement, the National Park Service may request assistance from TCSO when NPS personnel or resources are insufficient to manage a law enforcement incident or emergency.
Each agency remains responsible for its own personnel, equipment, and associated costs incurred during responses under this agreement. Neither party seeks reimbursement from the other for services provided.
The greement has a term of 10 years, however within 5 years the agreement will be reviewed and updates made if necessary. The agreement also has the option to be extended or renewed by written consent at the conclusion of the 10 year agreement term.
