Requested Action(s)

recommendation

a)                     RESOLUTION - Request adoption of a resolution authorizing the Director of Animal Services, or designee, to apply for and enter into grant agreements when specific factors exist

body

Financial Impact:

There will be no impact on the General Fund. Funding for all purchases, projects and services performed through the agreements will be provided by the grantors.

Background Information:

The Division of Animal Services often relies on grants to supplement its funding. Grant funds have been used for no-cost vaccine and microchipping clinics, needed supplies for foster homes, and improvements to outdoor animal exercise yards. Larger grants purchased medical equipment and funded staffing for spay/neuter surgeries on the division’s mobile van and funded a Limited Term Animal Services Coordinator to expand the Division’s volunteer and foster programs.

A portion of the grants sought by the Division often have limited timelines for application and agreements that do not allow the Division enough time to seek prior approval from the Board of Supervisors. The Division is requesting authorization through Resolution to apply for and accept certain grants when specific factors exist, in the amount of $5,000 or less.
