a) AGREEMENT - Request approval and authorization for the Sheriff to sign the Boating Safety and Enforcement Financial Aid Program Agreement through the California Department of Parks and Recreations, Division of Boating and Waterways, to accept reimbursable Financial Aid Funds to fund boating safety and enforcement activities through the Sheriff’s Boating Unit for the amount not to exceed $133,448, effective 7/1/25 and shall terminate 6/30/26

body

Financial Impact:

The funds have been budgeted into the FY 25/26 Sheriff’s budget as anticipated revenue for the Sheriff’s Office’s Boating unit (2024-0450620).

Background Information:

This Financial Aid Program through the California Department of Parks and Recreations, Division of Boating and Waterways has been in place for well over 30+ years to fund the boating unit along with the boating taxes that the county collects. The Boating Safety and Enforcement Financial Aid Program will only reimburse costs strictly allocated to the Boating Unit Activities. The reimbursable funds allowed and budgeted for in the FY25/26 budget are one full time Sergeant salary and additional back-up patrol officers such as a Detective or Deputy listed on the Marine Patrol. The Boating Aid funding also allows for reimbursement funds to be allocated to some of the repairs on the boats, equipment, training, boat fuel, and mileage.
