The funds for the requested action are a result of the 2026 ASPCA The Rescue Effect Campaign Grant.  There is no impact on the General Fund.

Background Information:

On April 29, 2026, The Division of Animal Services submitted an application to the 2026 ASPCA Rescue Effect Campaign Grant for the purpose of providing six (6) no-cost adoption days in 2026. Due to the time constraints of the grant application deadline, the Division is seeking ratification of the previously submitted application.

On May 18, 2026, the Division was officially awarded the 2026 ASPCA Rescue Effect Campaign Grant. For this grant, acceptance of grant funds constitutes acceptance of the grant agreement.

The Division will use the grant funds received to hold six (6) no-cost adoption event days between August and October 2026, with the goal of increasing adoptions and reducing the length of stay for shelter animals.

Grant funds will allow the Division to offer no-cost adoptions for animals adopted during the designated event dates. Adopters will be responsible for the separate applicable dog licensing fees required for residents within Tehama County.
