Requested Action(s)

recommendation

a) Request approval of the revised classification specification of Health Educator I within the Joint Council Bargaining Unit, effective 2/25/25

body

Financial Impact:

There is no financial impact associated with this request.

Background Information:

The Health Services Agency is requesting to revise the Education & Experience section of the Health Educator I classification specification. In June 2024, the Board approved a revised classification specification for this position. However, it has been discovered there was an oversight in the Education & Experience section revisions. The language “is highly desirable” was inadvertently removed from the minimum experience requirement. As a result, the classification currently requires “One (1) year of experience providing health education in a community, or health/behavioral health setting.”

Since the creation of the classification, it has been the intention of the Department to be able to hire candidates directly out of college. These candidates typically have limited (less than one (1) year) of internship experience.  Therefore, the Department requests to revise the Education & Experience section back to the previous requirement, which states, “One (1) year of experience providing health education in a community, or health/behavioral health setting is highly desirable.”

The Joint Council Bargaining Unit has been notified of the proposed change and is in agreement with the requested action.
