Financial Impact:
Tehama County District Attorney - Bureau of Investigations is in need of a commercial washer and dryer and will be paid for from State Asset Seizure funds allocated to the Tehama County District Attorney’s Office. The cost is estimated to be $3,500. There is no financial impact to the General Fund.
Background Information:
The Tehama County District Attorney-Bureau of Investigations is asking for funds to be transferred for the purchase of a new commercial washer and dryer. The washer and dryer will be installed and utilized at the Bureau of Investigations in support of the marijuana eradication operations.
During eradication operations, personnel frequently encounter plants, soil, and miscellaneous equipment contaminated with harsh chemicals, including fertilizers, pesticides and other substances often used in illegal marijuana cultivation. These chemicals can adhere to uniforms, protective equipment, and other washable gear. Without proper decontamination, they pose health risks to personnel and their families if washed at home. A dedicated washer and dryer will ensure that all contaminated uniforms can be washed promptly and without exposing their families to the harsh chemicals/contaminants associated with marijuana cultivation. For these reasons, the purchase of the washer and dryer is necessary to maintain a safe working environment and the support of ongoing marijuana eradication operations.
