Requested Action(s)

recommendation

a) ORDINANCE- Request the adoption of an ordinance amending Ordinance No.1922 under Tehama County Code §2.02.020(C) - Compensation to replace the existing $500 monthly automobile allowance with a flat monthly allowance equal to the value of one thousand (1,000) miles at the County’s adopted Internal Revenue Service (IRS) standard mileage reimbursement rate

Financial Impact:

Financial impact will vary depending on the IRS mileage reimbursement rate adopted by the County.

Example using current County rate ($0.70/mile):

                     Monthly allowance: $700

                     Annual allowance: $8,400

Actual cost will adjust automatically if the County updates its adopted IRS mileage rate.

Background Information:

Ordinance No. 1922 currently provides a fixed automobile allowance of $500 per month for the Board of Supervisors. The Board has determined that the fixed dollar amount does not adequately reflect changes in vehicle operating costs over time. To better align the allowance with current travel cost standards, the proposed amendment replaces the fixed allowance with a monthly flat rate calculated using the County’s adopted IRS mileage reimbursement rate.

Under the proposed ordinance:

The automobile allowance will equal the value of 1,000 miles at the County’s adopted IRS mileage reimbursement rate.

The allowance amount will automatically adjust whenever the County updates its IRS mileage reimbursement rate.

This increase shall take effect in July of 2026 when the county adopts the 2026 IRS rate and a new fiscal year begins.
