Requested Action(s)
recommendation
a) Request approval of revisions to the classification specification of Correctional Deputy I / Correctional Deputy, effective 10/7/25
body
Financial Impact:
There is no financial impact associated with this request.
Background Information:
The Sheriff’s Office is requesting to revise the Correctional Deputy I / Correctional Deputy classification specification. The current classification specification requires “Experience supervising adults or juveniles in a controlled setting” for the Correctional Deputy I. The Department wishes to make this a desired qualification as opposed to required minimum qualification. Upon review, many of our comparator counties, including Butte County, Colusa County, Glenn County, and Shasta County do not have an experience requirement for their entry-level correctional deputy classification. Therefore, this change would better align with the minimum qualifications at our comparator agencies.
Other minor language changes were made for consistency with County class specs such as the new standard language for classifications requiring a California Driver’s License and the possible exposure to dust scents and fumes.
There is no recommended salary adjustment with the requested changes.
The Deputy Sheriffs’ Association (DSA) has been notified of the proposed revisions and an agreement has been reached.
