recommendation

a)                     AGREEMENT - Request approval and authorization for the Chairman and Sheriff to sign the Agreement with Dr. Dan Purtzer for the provision of providing certain medical services to assist the Tehama County Sheriff/Coroner in performing his/her statutory duties for the rates as listed with maximum compensation not to exceed $100,000 per year, effective upon signing and shall terminate 6/30/25

body

Financial Impact:

The funding source for this agreement will be budgeted accordingly from the Coroner’s Budget 2072- 53230 Professional Services for the FY 2024-2025. The Sheriff's Office will continue to apply for grant monies to also help secure funding for Coroner Services.

Background Information:

In an effort to bring on multiple physicians, Dr. Purtzer is already established with Shasta County and would be an addition to the Coroner's Office to help supplement with non-forensic cases. This will continue to allow the Sheriff's Office to release the bodies in a timely manner without inconveniencing the surviving family members.

It should be noted that the department also has one forensic pathologist on contract that is used for criminal, in-custody, SIDS and most child deaths. Forensic pathologists are more expensive and greater in demand, so the Sheriff's Office is seeking other physicians to supplement the workload.

The Sheriff's Office has also lined the agreement up with their fiscal year-ending on June 30th. This will hopefully reduce any confusion agreed upon with yearly not to exceed amounts.
